Watercolor has been a challenge and a joy since an introductory class in college. Watercolor’s transparency and gradations of color have always been appealing. I have often used a mouth atomizer as well as brushes and painted on different surfaces besides the traditional watercolor papers, including canvas, very smooth boards, as well as synthetic papers and surfaces prepared with gesso and gel medium. These surfaces allow for different effects with watercolor.  I am drawn to subjects with strong light and shadow contrasts creating abstract shapes.
